IAG Cargo was the official logistics partner of the Citi exhibition MANGA at the British Museum in 2019. Shots of the neon-drenched rain slick streets of Tokyo blend with an interview with manga artist Ishizuka Shinichi (Blue Giant Supreme). I travelled to Japan with one other camera operator to shoot and edit this for Social Films.
The language barrier was a particular challenge; not only ensuring we had the right take when recording, but also building the interview within the edit, which required a translator to sit in and advise me. Along with the main interview, we also created a 30 second teaser, using thousands of photos taken using hyperlapse techniques around Tokyo’s famous landmarks. The result is a punchy whirlwind that grabs attention.
